Christmas 2011
Christmas is a very special time of the year for most people. I am no exception to that rule. I am a single mom with four children. Two of my children are grown and two are still at home. I lost my job in 2009 and have been challenged to make ends meet every since taking a variety of positions in order to provide for my children and survive. Within the last year I have undergone two surgeries which have been another challenge to recover from. I work from home but have a limited income and Christmas was not really in my budget this year. I was just thinking yesterday and wondering how I would be able to purchase a gift for my children. I prayed about it and then let go of it. I received a call shortly thereafter from an old friend asking if I could possibly meet her for breakfast today. I met with her this morning and we had a really nice time catching up with life. At the end of our visit she started telling me about a man locally that would pick a family each year to provide a meal to during the holidays. Last year she helped him locate a family in need and he provided a meal for the. She contacted them again this year but instead of them needing assistance they provided her with a sealed envelope and asked her to find a family in need so that they might repay the generosity that was shown to them the year before. She looked at me and told me that she had chosen me as this year's recipient. I am not typically the type who would ever ask for help nor is it easy to accept it but as she spoke with me I realized that I needed to accept it for my children. When we opened the envelope inside I found two gift cards. One was for $50 and the other for $100. I will now be able to purchase something for my children to open on Christmas morning. This is another loving act and reassurance that God truly does exist and there are good people in this world. I just wanted to share this. I have never written a blog before but this touched my heart so deeply today that I needed to. God bless each one of you that reads this message.
